We’ve had a few questions regarding the levels of training at Bennett Camp. If you still have questions after reading this please do not hesitate to contact us using the contact tab above.
We have a number of groups, for boys and girls, each morning and afternoon run based on current level of fitness.
We also have a pool for workouts if need be. Pool running can be a great complement to your summer running when done correctly. Proper form is essential. You must also view it with the same focus and intensity you would any other hard workout you would normally run. Many campers hit the water rather than the trails for their second run at camp. Mr. Heath runs the pool workouts so beware!
Various levels of pace are discussed prior to each run for the different groups. Since many athletes are at different stages of fitness, it’s important for campers to know their current personal ability as well as what their goals are for the week. We usually know by the second day if someone is in the wrong group, and we adjust accordingly.
Remember, staying healthy is the key. Fast runners are healthy runners.
Be in touch with your coach. Let him or her know that you plan on spending 5 glorious days in the Pennsylvania mountains. You’ll enter a lump of coal and leave a diamond. Or at least a faster and more knowledgeable lump of coal. Which is still a an improvement.
You will not get in shape in 5 days no matter how great we are. And believe me, we are great. Train intelligently and consistently over the next few months. Do not come to camp without having done any summer training. You can’t make up for lost time by simply coming to camp and running a lot. Good luck and get running!
