a giveaway :: oiselle running apparel for women

i first came across oiselle women’s running apparel on twitter. i immediately fell in love with their clothes ::  the colors, the cut, the graphics.  and i love their company name :: oiselle (pronounced wa-zell), a french word for bird, alludes to freedom and flight that we feel on a run. i wrote to the awesome women at oiselle, and now i am a member of their racing team.

i went for a run immediately after i got my first shipment of oiselle apparel in the mail. i wore the orange distance shorts and the birds tee. i’m not kidding when i say i turned heads. and i don’t think people were turning to look at the way i attacked the starting hill at holmdel park. it’s pretty rare that running gear can feel pretty, and it’s even more rare that people turn to look at it.

the women at oiselle (did i already mention how much they rock?!) were kind enough to give us a few pairs of their awesome arm warmers to hand out as prizes at our sleepaway camp. so get ready lady campers!

now here’s the giveaway part ::
oiselle’s fall line is starting to roll out, and it is amazing! (i am putting in my order today). go to their website and check out their fall line. write a comment below telling me what your favorite item is, and you will be entered to win a free pair of arm warmers. (great for those in between days when you don’t want to wear a whole other layer, but you gotta keep those arms warm).  i will pick a comment at random (using a geeky random number generator) on august 25, so get your comment in before 5pm ET.  make sure you leave your email so i contact you for your shipping address.  have fun browsing!

oh, and just because you asked….my favorite? hard to decide, but i gotta go with the logo tee just because of what it says on the back.

and if after checking it out, you just have to get your hands on some sweet oiselle apparel (don’t blame ya!), you can use the promo code “RUNTAMMIE” for 10% off.

pilates + running

a little over a year ago, i was training for a half marathon when i got my first-ever stress fracture and damage to multiple tendons and ligaments in my ankle.  ouch!  (but not so bad for over 25 years of running!)…  it took a loooong time for the tendons to heal, and i was very impatient.  while i wasn’t running, i spent a lot of time being grouchy reading articles about running form and injury prevention. i kept coming across runners talking about how pilates helped their running.  so i called cheryl from pure pilates studio in shrewsbury and signed up for my one-on-one introduction to pilates sessions.  i got hooked and i’ve been going ever since. now, if i skip a week, i can tell a difference in my running form.

i talked to cheryl about doing a group run followed by an intro-to-pilates session and she thought it was a great idea.  so, we are inviting you to hartshorne woods park on june 5, 2010 at 9 am for a run followed by a short pilates stretching and ab session specifially tailored to runners.  i hope you will join us – click here for more info

:: read on to find out more about pilates and cheryl frain ::

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercises created by its namesake founder, Joseph Hubertus Pilates.  Born 1880 in Germany, Joseph Pilates was a sickly child plagued with asthma, rheumatic fever and rickets.  Fascinated by muscle function and its connection with well-being, Joseph Pilates created an exercise program that involved the use of the entire body and promoted both flexibility and strength.  The entire system focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine.  Based on six core principles:  Concentration, Control, Centering, Precision, Breath, and Flow of Movement.  The Pilates Method of body conditioning has proven effective with injury prevention and recovery, improved alignment, enhanced breathing and circulation, increased strength, flexibility and balance, improved muscle tone, energy and mental concentration.

Cheryl Frain is owner of Pure Pilates Studio in Shrewsbury.  Cheryl has been studying and teaching The Pilates Method for over 10 years.  She was certified by the New York Pilates Studio Teacher Certification Program under First Generation Master Teacher Romana Kryzanowska.  Romana is one of a few still living who worked with Joseph Pilates himself.  Cheryl has also studied with Master teachers Ton Voogt and Michael Fritzke, and Director of Power Pilates, Bob Liekens.  She has attended workshops held by Ron Fletcher, Lolita San Miguel, Brooke Siler, Mari Winsor, and Colleen Glen.  Cheryl does most of her continuing education at Power Pilates in NY.  What Cheryl loves most about Pilates is the principles behind it, the emphasis on quality versus quantity, and the awareness that it gives people of their bodies.

The Burn Revisited

A few years ago I was asked by milesplit.com to write a few articles about my running in high school. tammie told me a few nights ago that I should try and hunt them down. Well, I do what I’m told. So, over the next few weeks I’ll be giving links to the eight articles that detail the beginning of my career all the way to the end of XC my senior year in high school. I hope you enjoy reading the articles as much as I enjoyed writing them.
